Sometimes we feel like people treat us like door mats or take advantage of us. We can't change other people's behavior, but we can always change our own. What if there was something we could do ourselves, to change the unhealthy dynamic and not only feel respected by others but also feel like we show ourselves respect?

REMEMBER TO BREATHE
Breathing seems to be easy enough, as we do it automatically every day.
So, why am I teaching about Deep Breathing?
Because when we become a little nervous or anxious about something, our autonomic nervous system kicks in. It prepares our body for fight or flight.
By taking several deep breaths, we bring oxygen into our lungs and our respiratory system, and into our circulatory system, which brings the normal oxygen levels back into our brain so we can think clearly.

STOP THINK TECHNIQUE
Sometimes we worry and have overwhelming negative thoughts about what might happen, or thoughts about "what if ___happens?".
This technique helps us rewire the brain to look at options for perspective and help us process thoughts and feelings in a healthier way.

MINDFULNESS
The practice of Mindfulness can be built on top of our breathing technique. In it we can find calmness and notice things without feeling like we need to act on what we notice. Often, when we feel anxious, we go into a fight, flight, or freeze response, but don't necessarily make the best decisions for ourselves during that time. Focus becomes on relieving ourselves from the anxiety instead of learning to calm our bodies down in a healthy way.
Mindfulness provides a healthy option of calming the body down.
