Accessing Resources that Assist in Processing a Traumatic Experience Pre-Trauma Training
Prevention is easier than overcoming injury. Existing pre-trauma programs address general mental well-being but aren’t effective enough when people experience an actual trauma.
What is needed are resources that assist in processing a traumatic experience: Pre-Trauma Training can strengthen emotional elasticity in people. Creating emotional resilience through learning coping skills, pre-trauma training will decrease suffering, economic, social, and financial burdens.
Studies have shown developing coping skills and emotional resilience are key factors in overcoming trauma. Bessel Van Der Kolk has studied PTSD and discussed the importance of emotional resilience in overcoming trauma. Francine Shapiro developed EMDR and discusses the protocol of preparation for emotional stability and sense of control as important factors for overcoming trauma. We all know prevention is better than treating for a cure. We as EMDR providers already have the resources to provide skills for coping with trauma. We need to start providing those skills before the trauma is experienced! This course was created for trauma therapists.

The skills to identify certain populations that are at higher risk for experiencing trauma that can prepare for the trauma they will most likely experience
Examine how EMDR is currently used to process trauma and what is currently done to prevent traumatized system in the first place
A deeper understanding pf PTSD and the effects on the person
Incorporate ways therapists can prepare clients to process trauma into how we can prepare clients or populations that are high risk for trauma
Learn techniques that can strengthen emotional elasticity/agility
